Is Your Google Adsense Account Banned?

by Cary Bergeron on April 22, 2011

So everyone has heard the horror stories of Adsense accounts being banned. I’m a firm believer if you play by the rules and don’t click on your own ads this won’t happen.

However, if you find yourself getting banned or needing to setup a second account follow the guidelines below and you will be good to go.

These steps have been tested by multiple trusted sources.

1. Setup a new Gmail account. Do this from an address that you have never used to login to your existing Adsense account. Use a friends house, coffee shop or free hot spot. Google tracks IP’s on banned accounts so it has to be different. Once you create this new Gmail account never, ever, ever log into it from the IP address that you used for your first account. Alternatively you could call your ISP and get a new IP address for the outside of your modem/router. This might be a pain in the ass depending on who you end up talking to your provider.

2. Create a new hosting account. Move your sites from your old host to the new host. Before you do the move be sure to remove any Adsense code that might be still running on the site. Also, remove any analytics running as well.

3. Change the WhoIS info for all your sites. Change your registration, contact and admin information for your domains to the new Gmail account and generic “webmaster” information. User your friends/family address.

4. Register for your new Adsense account. Be sure to use the new Gmail account, your friends/family address, a different name and SSN # or company tax ID. If you need to setup a company for a tax ID this can be done very easily. In Colorado it takes about 20 mins to register an LLC with the state online. Once registered apply for your tax ID and you are gtg. Depending on your state this might take up to a week to get the information back that you need.

Basically don’t use the same IP address, name, SSN or address when going through this process.

I would like to state for the record that my account has never been banned (knocks on wood) but for those who have had theirs banned this is the best route to take.

Good luck…

It’s amazing this advice never even occurs to most Adsense publishers. I’ve never had a personal account, just my company accounts. I wouldn’t even use a personal account as a backup, even though I could worst case..

Nice article Cary. I have a question. I run 3 year old PR4 niche membership site. I have been experimenting with placing some very transparent legit ads on craigslist targeting my niche. The traffic has a very low bounce rate and is very targeted. My landing page which is actually my home page has NO Adsense at all. If a user wants to search for something on my site, which is what most visitors do on my site, the landing page has ads, currently not Adsense but another form of ppc campaign. Would it be a problem to include Adsense on that page as well. Thanks for your opinion on it.

No you can run Adsense on the same page you run other PPC ads on as well.

thanks for getting back Cary. Really my question is relating to craigslist. I am getting quality traffic to my site from craigslist. There is no adsense on the currently and will not be on the landing page. Can I include adsense on other sub pages of this site. Would that be a problem?

Hey Cary,

A neat and informative article, My site is built on v2.6 of xsite pro and I’d never thought of putting adsense on there, I think I just had a mental block that adsense went on blogs, namely WP. But I’m very intersted in your business model and will check it out further.

Thanks for sharing this valuable information

Colin.

Hi Cary:

Thanks for a timely and relevant post. I came across it couple of weeks back, not knowing that I might need it and low and behold, Google disabled my adsense account. On one my sites, the traffic jumped 1000% and somebody when nuts with click fraud, and that was that:( Its strange that a company of Google magnitude does not have filters in place to stop something like it occurring. I appealed their decision but to no avail and provided them with GA proof, and now I have no business models for my sites any more.

So Cary to implement your suggestions, I just need some clarifications -

- Setting up a gmail account, create a new hosting account, changing whois, are straight forward to implement.

However, how do you set Adsense account up in a different name. If it is setup as an Individual account, then your “Payee Name” needs to be the same as a bank account, so that means that you are deposits will be going in a family/friends account as well. So they will have to report that income for tax purposes.

And if it is setup as a Business account, you still need to provide a Contact name.

Thinking it out, it would make more sense to have it under a Business name and provide a family friend name as the Contact name. The con to is that now you have to incorporate another company, just for Google Adsense purposes.

Am I on the right track, or are you suggesting something else with the “different name”?

Thanks a bunch, Bobby

Great article, Cary! I’m not running AdSense yet, but I am scared of getting banned.

Bobby, How did you detect the click fraud? Can you see the person clicking multiple times from the same IP?

Also, how old was the site where the click fraud happened?

hey Cary,
Do you know if Google allows you to have multiple sites in the same niche?

Big fan of your work by the way!!

Yes you can have more than one site in the same niche.

Thanks for the props!

Adsense will not have a problem with that. But developing multiple sites around the same kw phrase could be construed as spamming by G. It all depends on what the sites are about. If your sites are these:

redwidgetsalary
redwidgetsalaryinwa etc,.
then that would mean those are nothing but spam.

Cary,

Thanks you so much. I will follow your direction to the ‘t’. But, I was told that google wants you to have a site for at least 3 months active that you would put the google adsense on…they prefer google’s blogger.com…NO?

one way to get around this is to write an article on hubpages and through their monetization methods, you can get an adsense account without even a website!
