3 SEO Techniques That Don’t Suck

by Cary Bergeron on April 26, 2011

Ok in order to rank and stay ranked for your targeted keywords you need to know some basic SEO.  If you are in it for the long haul and want to make money online, you need to follow a couple key steps.  Below I explain the top 3 things I think about when creating Adsense sites that make money.  These are not the only things to keep in mind and each point below could be expanded on, but this is a very good starting point.  Follow these steps and the other things I teach in The Adsense Guild and you will be making money in no time.

Content Is King…Still

Quality content with the right amount of on page elements will help your pages and post rank well.  Always remember to write content for visitors and not search engines.  Also, I’ve never worried about keyword density and have never had an issue.

  1. Be sure to put your main keyword in your title tag.  Also try and put the keyword as close to the front of the title tag as possible.
  2. Headlines and the H1 or H2 tags are the next thing you want to think about.  Be sure to have your main keyword in the H1 tag and your secondary keywords in your H2 tags if you have them.
  3. Alt text and image tags are needed on every page.  If you have pages that don’t have images get them uploaded and add you alt tags and name the graphics file a keyword variation.

Links Are A Necessesary Evil

Link building is a number game and the more you do the better.  Now there are right ways and wrong ways to get links and you don’t want a shit ton of them all at once.  So follow the points below and get started with the game.

  1. When getting links from other sites to your site (backlinks) be sure to include your keywords in the anchor text.  Don’t just use the main keyword but also include variations of your keywords and phrases.
  2. Get the widest variety of links as you possibly can.  Don’t just do blog commenting for your backlinks.  Be sure to get links from as many different root domains and IP addresses as possible.  Get links from blog comments, directories, articles, press releases, videos, forum signatures, guest blog posts, link wheels, social bookmarks and others.
  3. Remember its a numbers game.  Just because you build 1000 links to your site doesn’t mean they will always be there and that the search engines will even see them.  Never stop building links, be consistent and steady.  ABAL = Always Be Adding Links

Domain Names Are The Cherry On Top

Your domain name on an Adsense site or a site you want to bring up organically is very important.  There is speculation that this might change in the future but as of right now it is still very, very important.

  1. Register your domain name for as long as you can afford to.  The longer you register a domain for the more trust it establishes with the search engines.  If you register a domain for only one year to test a niche be sure to extent it once you know it will work.
  2. Always try to get your main site keyword or a variation of it in the domain URL address.
  3. Once your site is live and loaded with content keep it the same.  Don’t switch out the content or niche to something that doesn’t make sense.  The longer a site stays around with the same content on it  the better.

Follow these basic steps and you will be on your way to getting your site ranked pretty well.  Choose the correct niche and your revenue will increase every month.

Hope this helps someone…see you at the guild.

Cary, thanks for all the tips, it’s great to hear them from someone that knows what they’re talking about.

I have a question:
Do you have any sites with two 250 x 250 adsense ads placed beside each other at the top of a post?

Is that ok to do? I’ve seen several sites do this, just wanted your take on it.

Yeah I have several sites that run either dual 336×280′s or 250×250′s.

I actually call this the “double barrel” and have had very good results with it.

Thanks for your feedback.
My site looks better with 2 side by side than just one by itself to me. But I’ve read where you need to have content above the fold and my site only has ads above the fold…I guess I’ll post the “double barrel” and adjust my site theme to have some content above the fold on an 800×600 screen.

Life is a lot easier when you get the exact domain for your keyword.

Hi Cary

Hey I enjoyed your interview not too long ago with Lisa Parmely..you gave a lot of helpful info thanks! Years ago I built my first Adsense site and during the time I had it and sold it the darned thing made like 150,000! So yes you can make a killing with Adsense.

Anyone sitting on fence- join Cary’s Guild!
I have been sitting on my ass for the past year and after looking at one shiny toy online after another, I’m finally ready to get busy again building sites.

Question I wish Lisa has asked you- Have your earnings been affected at all by the latest Google/Panda update….?? Have you changed any of your methods because of it or is everything still going awesome for your business..

Thanks for your input and help with this question Cary!

warmly

Pat

Thanks for the kind words Pat.

As with anyone who has many sites I did see some affects but not a lot. Out of the last 3 updates I only saw the last one hit a couple sites.

Did it make me change my tactics?…A little! But, even if it didn’t affect me you always need to be looking for the next best technique or process on SEO. SEO doesn’t stand still and you need to continuously change it to stay ahead.

I am now testing a new SEO technique that I will reveal to The Adsense Guild once I have proof it works. I am 95% certain it will I just don’t want to jump to conclusions.
